SEED, Educational innovation in renewable energy to achieve a continent free of fossil fuels

The SEED project, Sustainable Energy Education, aims to develop an innovative vocational education and training learning community, working with experts from five European countries (Netherlands, Finland, Spain, Germany, and Greece) to contribute to Europe becoming a continent free of the use of fossil fuels.
SEED is committed to education’s fundamental role in addressing climate change and promoting the transition towards a green society. This transition’s challenges are relevant and complex and require technical, technological, and environmental knowledge. Therefore, SEED explores ways to develop innovative university and vocational education through sustainable collaboration between European higher education and vocational training centers (EQF2-7) and local, regional, and EU authorities. industry. In this way, in addition to supporting the development of graduates’ skills and reinforcing the growth of the renewable energy sector, the development of new services for future challenges in the energy transition is also encouraged.
SEED seeks to create regional sustainable energy learning communities by exchanging good practices and innovative approaches. In this way, SEED prepares students and existing professionals with the skills and competencies necessary for the future.
SEED also enhances regional innovation based on regional needs, strengthening connections within regions. Good practices in teaching and learning, industry partnerships, and educational governance are being selected, enriched, and shared to promote the attractiveness of project-based education and dual training.
Furthermore, SEED (Sustainable Energy Education) is a CoVE (Centre of Vocational Excellence) program funded by the EU Erasmus+ programme. CoVEs are formed by networks of education centers (covering European education levels EQF2-8), industry and other organizations to innovate professional practice and deliver high-quality skills to young people and adults.
Being closely linked to regional strategic development and innovation, CoVE SEED generates new regional and local synergies that improve networking, developing a higher and more efficient level of response to sectoral priorities – regional and national – and making a active contribution to the generation of new knowledge.
Members of our university community, the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), actively participate in this project that is coordinated at the regional and national level by the professor of the Economic Engineering Center Dr. Elena De La Poza. To date, the Director of the Center for Economic Engineering, Dr. Natividad Guadalajara Olmeda, actively participates in the UPV working group; Professor Dr. Amparo Blázquez Soriano, Professor Dr. Pedro Fuentes Durá, Director of the Istobal Chair of Innovation and the Idc Chair, Innovation, Design and Interculturality; and our recently incorporated colleague and UPV Alumni Ms. Ruijing Wang, an expert in the renewable energy sector. Our regional partners also stand out: Generalitat Valenciana and the Association of Renewable Energy Companies (AVAESEN).
The COVE SEED project is a project faithfully aligned with the UPV SIRVE 2023-2027 strategy that promotes environmental, economic, and social sustainability and that contributes to the transition to the Valencian green economy and society following the principles of the 20230 Agenda.
